These entwined hands of a daughter holding her father’s hand as he nears the end of his life, are a true reminder of how precious life is. We come into the world holding the hands of those who love and guide us unconditionally. As we mature, the transfer of love and guidance are seen as we hold the hands of our parents and lead them to everlasting peace, letting them know that it is “ok” to move on to their spiritual place. This painting in particular, was for breast cancer survivor, Diana Prihoda from Fairchild, Texas, who was supported unconditionally by her father, Richard “Butch” Harris, as she endured the fight of her life from 2013-2014. Her father never missed a treatment and was her hero as he never left her side. In August of 2014, Harris was diagnosed with a fast moving cancer and died a month later. Prihoda took a photo of their hands embracing, as she spent countless hours with him. Remembering all of those who were taken from her life due to cancer, Divin painted a beautiful oil painting of the hands from the photo, while adding in her own emotion, love, and sensitivity. This painting is dedicated to Richard “Butch” Harris and all who have lost someone close to them due to cancer.
